Summary
The Crown BAS Upgrade was established as a comprehensive five-year master plan aimed at upgrading and future-proofing the entire system following 15 years of operation. A key feature of the upgrade was the installation of a new Ethernet network, enabling the system to function on a virtual platform rather than a conventional cable network.
The project involved the preparation, review, and sign-off of the Front End Engineering Document (FEED), along with the installation of a new 2.2 km Ethernet that interconnected all data hubs within the complex. This upgrade included new data gathering panels and the transition of the existing system to the new Ethernet, along with necessary cutovers and testing between the old and new controllers.
Specialised also developed new functional descriptions and control strategies to support an energy reduction master plan. The project faced significant challenges, including conducting cutovers and works within a 24/7 operational facility, testing plant and equipment while the facility was in operation, and managing partially cut-over systems.
