Summary

Specialised was responsible for the design, documentation, and delivery of a new Crown data centre aimed at consolidating Crown’s IT services across its two primary Australian sites, as well as Crown Sydney.

The existing data centre was deemed undersized and insufficient for future growth. The project involved preparing a business case justification to secure capital works expenditure and implementing an N+1 electrical supply system, featuring two separate feeds from different transformers and dual UPS. New chilled water circuits were established from both the Level 4 and Level 2 plant rooms, complete with duty standby pumps and in-row cooling units.

Significant structural modifications were made to support the weight of the white and grey space equipment, and the design allowed for the future doubling of the data centre, including provisions for an additional 14 racks along with necessary infrastructure and structure.

The project required a three-stage relocation, decanting, and tenancy works to free up space for the new data centre on-site. Key challenges included completing pre-works six months prior to project award, extending the main switchboard and installing new circuit breakers for submains during a major yearly plant shutdown, and managing high-risk cut-overs in a 24/7 operational facility, all while conducting failover and load bank testing.
