Summary

Specialised was tasked with the design, documentation, and delivery of the Fire Graphics System Upgrade, which aimed to replace the outdated and non-compliant fire graphics system with a new Simplex Trusite system. The project involved preparing a business case justification to secure capital expenditure for the upgrade.

This included establishing all devices currently connected to the system and identifying any additional devices or areas that needed to be addressed or integrated into the new graphics through a comprehensive audit. Extensive consultation with users was conducted to determine what additional information should be incorporated into the upgraded system, such as stair numbering and locations of fire hose reels and hydrants.

The project also involved confirming and adding any new smoke or sprinkler zones to the graphics and the installation and networking of new screens in the Maintenance Manager’s office and the Fire Control Room (Disaster Recovery Room). Key challenges included identifying the accuracy and location of new information to be included in the graphics, ensuring the continuity of operations during the upgrade works, and providing training to in-house engineering staff post-completion.
